Allen-Fleming Scholarship
Eleanor Fleming was a dedicated teacher and a charter member of BRMTA. After her death in 1965, the Eleanor Fleming Scholarship was established with a small sum of money left to BRMTA from her life insurance policy with the National Guild of Piano Teachers. The membership voted to establish this fund in her honor as a way of rewarding an outstanding and talented student from its membership.
In 1983, upon the death of Mrs. S.D. Allen, another dedicated and long-standing member of BRMTA, memorial donations were added to this fund. Her name was added to the scholarship at this time.
Originally, the plan and goal was to award money to an eleventh grader for tuition to a fine music camp. The members later voted to hold auditions each year and to give cash awards to first, second, and third place winners on three levels. Since its organization in January 1966, the fund which began with $150 has grown through donations and memorials.
